I work with adults and couples dealing with a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, relationship difficulties, workplace stress and burnout, trauma, anger, difficult interpersonal situations, chronic stress and recurring patterns that can be hard to change. Some people come to therapy with a very specific problem, while others simply know that something in their life is not working as well as they would like. We can begin by making sense of what is happening and deciding together what might be most helpful.
Individual psychotherapy sessions are generally 50 minutes. Couples often benefit from longer sessions, and I frequently work with couples in 90-minute sessions because it gives us enough time to explore what is happening without having to stop just as we begin getting somewhere important.
I’m an active and collaborative therapist rather than someone who simply sits back and listens. We’ll talk, explore, ask questions and look for patterns, but we’ll also consider what you can actually do with what we discover. Depending on your needs, I may draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, mindfulness, experiential and mind-body approaches, as well as practical strategies for change. I adapt therapy to the person rather than trying to fit everyone into the same formula.
Internal Family Systems, often called IFS or “parts work,” is an approach that helps us understand the different parts of ourselves that can sometimes pull us in different directions. For example, one part may want change while another is frightened of it. Rather than judging or fighting these reactions, we become curious about what they are trying to accomplish or protect. I often find this a useful way of understanding recurring emotional and relationship patterns.
My practice is 100% virtual. I provide psychotherapy by secure video to adults and couples throughout Ontario. Many clients appreciate being able to attend therapy from home or another private location without travel time, parking or the additional disruption of getting to an office.
My style is thoughtful, practical and conversational. I bring curiosity and compassion to the work, but I am also comfortable asking questions, offering observations and helping you look at something from a different angle. I usually bring some humour into therapy as well. Therapy can involve difficult things, but I don’t believe every session needs to feel heavy.
No. You do not need to have a diagnosis or even know exactly what the problem is. Many people begin therapy because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, unhappy in a relationship, stressed at work, disconnected from themselves or tired of repeating a pattern they understand intellectually but still cannot seem to change. Part of therapy can be figuring out what is actually happening.
Yes. I have formal training in EMDR and may incorporate it when it is appropriate to a client’s needs. EMDR is often associated with trauma, but the broader work can involve distressing experiences, memories and patterns that continue to affect how someone responds in the present. Whether EMDR is appropriate is something we would determine together rather than assuming it is the right approach for everyone.
Yes. Because my practice is virtual, I work with clients throughout Ontario, not only in Ottawa. As a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, my practice is structured around providing psychotherapy to clients located within the province.
My fee is $235 for a 50-minute psychotherapy session. Longer sessions are billed proportionately. Payment is generally made by Interac e-Transfer unless direct billing arrangements apply. I provide receipts that clients can use when submitting psychotherapy expenses to an insurance provider where eligible.
Yes. I have a particular interest in workplace stress, burnout and difficult work relationships. Sometimes the problem is workload or exhaustion. At other times it is a difficult manager, colleague, employee, organizational culture or recurring interpersonal situation. Therapy can provide a place to understand what is happening, manage the emotional impact, identify patterns and think practically about boundaries, communication and your options.
Yes. ADHD is one of the areas I particularly enjoy working with. Therapy may involve attention and organization, but adult ADHD often affects much more than that. It can influence confidence, emotional regulation, relationships, work, procrastination, overwhelm and the way someone has learned to think about themselves after years of struggling with things that seemed easier for other people. We can work with both the practical challenges and the emotional impact of ADHD.
The Gottman Method is a research-informed approach to couples therapy developed from decades of study of relationships. It helps couples identify patterns that contribute to conflict and disconnection while developing practical ways to strengthen friendship, communication, emotional responsiveness, trust and repair. I integrate Gottman principles and interventions with my broader clinical experience rather than treating every couple according to a single formula.
Yes. Couples are an important part of my practice. I help couples understand recurring patterns, improve communication, manage conflict more effectively, rebuild emotional connection and address deeper issues that may be keeping them stuck. My couples work is Gottman-informed and also draws from my broader psychotherapy training and more than 20 years of clinical experience.
Yes. I provide individual psychotherapy for adults in Ottawa and throughout Ontario. My practice is entirely virtual, so sessions take place securely online from the privacy and convenience of your own space. I bring more than 20 years of psychotherapy experience and tend to work in an active, practical and collaborative way.
Yes. I have experience working with both Veterans and Indigenous clients and welcome people from these communities into my practice. I am able to direct bill eligible Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) clients where coverage applies.
Finding the right therapist matters. Training and experience are important, but so is whether you feel comfortable talking with the person and whether their way of working makes sense to you. I offer a free 10-minute telephone consultation so we can briefly discuss what is bringing you to therapy, what you hope might change and whether my approach seems like a good fit.
You can contact me through this website to arrange a free 10-minute telephone consultation. You do not need to prepare a detailed explanation beforehand. Just tell me a little about what has been happening and what you are hoping for help with. From there, we can decide whether it makes sense to schedule a first session.
